Understanding traffic: included, extra and overage on V-Servers and root servers

Back

Short version: On V-Servers and root servers, traffic is not “unlimited until something happens”. You get an included allowance, you can add extra TB – and anything above that is billed. Current prices live in checkout and the customer area, not locked into the GTC. Here is the model, without the small print.

Three buckets, not one

  • Included: comes with the server. The amount follows the full package – CPU, RAM and disk, not RAM alone. A small V-Server gets less than a large root. You see the exact figure at checkout and later on the contract.
  • Extra: optional in the configurator, added on top. If you need more than included every month, book TB instead of paying overage every time.
  • Overage: everything above included + extra. Billed monthly or on the next invoice.

Uplink (MBit/s / Gbit/s) is speed, not volume. 1 Gbit does not mean unlimited TB. We count inbound and outbound traffic.

What overage costs

There are two prices – both shown in the shop and on the server in the customer area:

  • Announced: you open a ticket first (“we need more this month”) or you already booked extra traffic. Currently €4.70 per started TB (plus VAT where shown).
  • Unannounced: the allowance just ran out, no heads-up. Currently €8.20 per started TB.

Why two prices: announced we can plan. Unannounced we pay the expensive upstream rate and will not eat it. If prices change, the shop changes – not a PDF of terms first.

Rule of thumb: around 80 % on the graph, book extra or ping us. A ticket before the peak is cheaper than silence until the invoice.

Where to see your usage

  1. In the customer area on the server: usage, included, extra, forecast where available.
  2. In checkout, when you move CPU/RAM/disk: included traffic updates with the package.
  3. After a cancellation with no follow-up server invoice, overage may land as its own final invoice – the traffic still happened.

Panel game servers are a different product. This allowance model is for V-Servers and root servers.

What that means in practice

  • Offsite backups, Steam Workshop, Docker pulls, CDN origin: all of it counts. If you mirror 2 TB at night, book extra or announce it.
  • An idle test V-Server usually stays inside included. A root used as a download mirror will not.
  • We do not silently throttle you to 1 Mbit for that. We bill the volume – visible in the panel.

If you are unsure

Look at the bar in the customer area. Included not enough: add extra TB or open a ticket. There should be no surprise – usage sits next to the limit, not only on the invoice.
