WARDOGS beta this weekend: 100 players will kill a slot server
Back
Quick reality check: WARDOGS closed beta starts Friday — 100 players, three teams, one control zone. 800,000+ wishlists. This is not another 8-slot survival box. It is an FPS where one match is the size of a busy CS2 community night, plus vehicles, destruction and voice across the map.
This weekend you play on Bulkhead’s servers. From 10 September, Early Access, clans will want their own nights. That is when slot packages die.
What happens this weekend
Closed beta: 21–23 August 2026. A Steam pre-order (~$40) locks the seat. The request list is a maybe. Bulkhead already said pre-orders beat expectations, so the free queue stays small.
The game: three teams, up to 100 players, king of the hill on 2×2 km zones inside larger maps. Cash for teamplay, loadouts per life, tanks, helis, building, breaking, proximity voice. Not a battle royale, not an extraction shooter. A match that hits CPU, network and filtering at the same time.
100 players is not a “100-slot plan”
Slot hosts sell a number: 100 slots. That sounds right because WARDOGS has 100 players. It is not. For Minecraft, a slot count is a rough fit. WARDOGS pushes vehicles, destruction and 100 players into the same zone at once — and the slot number does not tell you whether the server stays smooth when that happens.
What that round actually eats:
- CPU: tickrate, physics, vehicles, buildings coming down. Single-thread matters, not “16 cores on the datasheet”.
- RAM: 100 clients plus the world. A 4 GB game-server SKU is an ad, not a setup.
- UDP: FPS is not HTTP. A burst a shop hides behind a CDN makes the round unplayable. We broke that down here.
- DDoS: the moment your server hits a public list, the stresser shows up. Arbor in front, or you tell the clan why Friday night died at 40 players.
Slots are a bad deal in 2026. CPU and RAM are the deal. We already wrote that here — WARDOGS is just the title that makes it obvious this weekend.
| Slot package | What WARDOGS needs | |
|---|---|---|
| Sales pitch | “100 slots” | cores, clocks, RAM, filtering |
| 100 players | a limit on paper | 100 clients + vehicles + voice |
| Attack | often an add-on | without a filter the round is over |
| When it matters | never for this title | as soon as you self-host — after the beta, at latest at Early Access |
Watch this weekend, buy hardware after
The beta is Bulkhead’s stress test, not your root server. Use the weekend like this: does the tick hold in a full zone? How does 100-player voice feel? Anyone who wants a community night after Sunday does not order 100 slots. They take a game server with real CPU or a Ryzen root that does not share the box with neighbours.
Early Access is 10 September. The price goes up later. If you take the title seriously, you have three weeks between beta and launch to have hardware standing — not 23:00 on 9 September.
Bottom line
WARDOGS is the 100-player FPS filling the feed this weekend. You play the beta on Bulkhead. Your own round after that will not survive a slot plan. CPU, RAM, Frankfurt, filter. Put 100 people in one zone and you feel the difference in the first minute.
