Quick reality check: The last batch of AMD Ryzen root servers sold out. Pre-orders are done. Linux and Windows are available again — after payment the server is provisioned automatically. No ticket, no queue.
This is not another CPU brochure. It is the sentence you need if you hit “out of stock” last week and want a 7950X in Frankfurt today.
What you actually get
Both plans sit on the same generation: AMD Ryzen 9 7950X, 16 cores / 32 threads, DDR5. The difference is the OS and how you log in, not the socket.
- Linux: a selected distribution, full root and SSH. Docker, databases, panels, bots, game-server backends.
- Windows: Windows Server preinstalled, Administrator plus RDP. Use it when the software requires Windows — not because “server means Windows”.
Not shared hosting, not a slot package. Root server means the machine is yours, including the mistakes you make on it.
Linux or Windows
Linux if you run web stacks, containers, databases or game-server backends. Less licence drag, less RAM spent on a desktop, the 7950X stays on the workload.
Windows if .NET Framework, certain IDEs, RDP workplaces or Windows-only software are why the server exists. Then the Windows plan is the right one — not a Linux root plus Wine.
If you are unsure: Linux. Switch to Windows when a concrete application forces it, not before.
Why Ryzen, not “any root”
The Ryzen 9 7950X is a high single-thread CPU with plenty of cores, not a 64-core EPYC built for packing guests. That is why it sits on our root servers: a process that cares about ticks, PHP, Node or a database feels clocks and cache — not just a core count on the datasheet.
Linux 7.2 adds cache-aware scheduling for exactly these chiplet CPUs. You should not compile that kernel onto the host today. The direction is still obvious: this hardware wants to stay local in cache, not bounce across the die. We wrote that up here.
Location stays Frankfurt, with Arbor filtering in front of the server. If you have already watched a cheap root without a filter under attack, you do not add that as an extra.

What changed operationally
Before: order, wait, manual approval. Now: pay, the server is provisioned. No pre-order limbo, no “we will email you when hardware arrives” — while the plan is in stock, it goes live.
If you still need VPS vs root: which one do you need? Ryzen root is the full-CPU option, not the shared VPS.
Bottom line
The batch is back. Linux if you want the software stack under your control. Windows if Windows is the stack. 7950X, DDR5, Frankfurt, setup after payment. If you were late last week, do not bet on “soon” again.
